Ode To Fall

My husband is a creature of habit and has decided that one habit he must not do without is reading my blog entries on Monday mornings while he eats breakfast. He can be really annoying in his constant reminders for me to blog on Sunday night. Some of my most random, boring, disturbing, slightly off-color and/or ridiculous blog entries have come about as a direct result of his insistence that I blog--even when my mood would dictate otherwise. There are just times when I really should not be communicating with human beings, let alone publishing said communication on the world wide web.

Anyhoo...he is gone to a meeting right now and he will be happy to know that I am blogging of my own accord. However, I think he may not care for the subject matter, as I am about to go on one of my "rants"--as he has termed them--about the FREAKING ARIZONA WEATHER!!!! So, my dear, you may not want to read any further in this blog post, as most of what I'm about to say you've heard me mutter under my breath or whine incessantly about each and every day for the last 6 months. Sorry.

Let me just start out by saying...I CAN NOT TAKE IT ANYMORE!!! I need fresh air--for the love of all things green and lush--is a nice cool breeze too much to ask for?!? It is SEPTEMBER and it is still in the high 90's here in the daytime--and low 90's at night. We finally got done with monsoon season--thank goodness. But the heat...

I'm afraid Arizona did not get the memo about fall. Fall is supposed to be cool and crisp and turn colors other than desert beige. I long for fall. I long for a cool breeze and sweaters and jackets and socks and shoes with toes. I ache to see a forest exploding into fireworks of red, orange, yellow, plum, green, and brown. To drive down a lane under a brilliant autumn canopy, to have to wear socks around the house to keep my feet warm, to snuggle into a warm bed of heavy blankets. Sigh...

I am a fall person. The main body of my house is a year-round homage to fall. The wall in the entryway is deep copper-orange, another is an autumn gold. Sage green is a backdrop in both the kitchen and family rooms. Accents of red and brown continue throughout. I am a fall person. Maybe I will rename myself Autumn just to prove the point. I love pies and rolls, long-sleeves and christmas music. Let's just say "these are a few of my favorite things".

And while there are many wonderful things about southern Arizona, this time of year is just plain depressing for me. It's hard to get that happy excitement for fall decorating when I'm hot, sweaty and 500 miles from the nearest Aspen or Maple tree.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. It could be worse. I could live in some war-torn Third World Country and have flies living off my eye fluid. I realize I am an ingrateful complainer. I understand that there are starving children in Ethiopia. I get that, okay? Just let me have my little pity party, then I'll go unpack the fall decorations and put on some Michael Buble, and a t-shirt and shorts, crank the AC and try to gin up the happiness and excitement for fall that I know I should be feeling. Maybe I'll even put on some socks, just for nostalgia.

Hubby, if you're still reading this (which I highly doubt) please stop here.

Okay...hopefully he's gone. So, I found a great online store that's working wonders for getting me "in the mood" for fall, so to speak. Problem solved :)
Here's the link. Have fun!!!!

I'm sorry you're missing out on the fall fun...like scooping rotten leaves out your gutters, or raking and raking and raking. And did I mention we've got acorns...millions and millions all over the ground. Then those acorns sprout and we get mini trees all over our lawn. The grass is always greener you know:) But I've been in your shoes too. Tucson did miss the fall memo. Loved the Debbie Downer pic. Have you seen Tina Fey do her Sarah Palin impersonation? It's like they are the same person!

Sorry, but I'd take Arizona fall over Idaho winter any day! Right now is about the time that I start wishing I lived down there. I know what you're saying though, but still......maybe, I never realized how great Oregon is. Let's all move back there!

Chad and I almost took an opportunity with a practice in AZ and I about cried. What would I do without Fall? Although I can't stand the constant rain in the SUMMER in Oregon. That also bothers me greatly. I need a little more variety than either consistent sun or persistent rain. Sorry, you can come visit us in ID. Debbie Downer, by the way, is one of my favorite sketches.
