Quotes from the boy...

Caleb is always cracking us up--sometimes it's intentional, most of the time totally innocent. His little brain is funny.

He's been learning about opposites at school recently, so sometimes in order to demonstrate his oppositional prowess he blurts out things like "the opposite of big is small" or "the opposite of hot is cold, right mom?". He's so smart.

This one was funny... Eliza was trying to be clever and stump him by asking "What's the opposite of insane?" to which, Caleb answered as if she were a total moron. "That's easy--outsane." We had fun with that one.

But some of his oppositional observations have not been as enjoyable as others. Like this one, "Mom, what's the opposite of tiny?" "I guess it would be huge", I answer innocently. To which he replies, "Mom, you're huge!" Nice.

I had to calm the girls down from their outrage in my defense as they immediately attacked him for his rudeness. (It's only rude if it's true...but that's fodder for another post) Anyway, he wasn't meaning to be rude. In fact, in Caleb's world of kindergarten bullies and playground territorial conflicts, to be huge is a major advantage. He was really embarrassed by the girls' reaction and I reassured him that I knew he wasn't trying to insult me. Mom's always understand.

Besides, Caleb is my most ardent complement-giver. He always notices when I'm dressed up or going somewhere and tells me adorable things like, "Mom you look so pretty." (Melt...) Or, "Mom, you're hair is beautiful." (Double melt...) He can call me huge anytime he wants after complements like that!

Now, if I could just get him to teach his father that stuff... :)
