Spontaneity

A couple of weeks ago...

Me: What am I going to do with the kids during spring break? It's not warm enough to go swimming yet...riding bikes is fun for a while, but not all week long...I'm worn out already. I need a break and I'm dreading the idea of trying to keep them all busy the whole time.

My Mom: There's only way to solve your dilemma... take them to Disneyland.

Me: I wish. Jim has to work and I can't take them alone.

My Mom: I could go with you! It would be fun!

Me: Are you serious?! Do you know how much work that is? Besides, it's spring break. The place will be insanely crowded.

My Mom: I'll help with the kids...it would be fun. It's okay if it's crowded. We'll just take it easy and enjoy what we get to do.

Me: Last time I was there it was insane. The crowds were ridiculous. You couldn't hardly walk anywhere, you just shuffled along with the herd.

My Mom: We'll go mid-week. Maybe it won't be so bad. I'll pay for the hotel and half the gas.

Me: It is after all the Happiest Place on Earth. Okay, let's go.

So, if my husband asks, that's my story of how we decided to just pick up and go to Disneyland on a couple days notice (and I'm sticking to it).

No, really. We had a great time. It WAS insanely crowded. It WAS ridiculous. It WAS absolutely exhausting. But it was still a LOT of fun. I'm glad we did it. I hope the kids remember their "surprise" trip to Disneyland with Grandma Donkin the rest of their lives.
